CALM TALK 104 | Monomer Pair Contact Properties of Large Biomolecules

报告人简介:Lei Liu received his PhD from Heidelberg University in 2015. He then joined in the theoretical and computational biophysics group at Korea Institute for Advanced Study as a post-doc. His current research focuses on fundamental properties of polymer systems such as polyelectrolyte brushes, and the structure and dynamics of large biomolecules, such as chromosomes.

讲座摘要:To understand how chromatin, a giant DNA molecule associated with many proteins, is folded in the cell nucleus is being considered as the third stage of the human genome project. The Chromosome Conformation Capture experiments offer unprecedented but not straightforward structural information about our genome, by counting the contact frequencies of different genetic loci pairs in spatial proximity. In this talk, I will first give an introduction about how we interpret these loci pair contact properties and some coarse-grained polymer models, upon which we can construct 3D chromatin structures. We find that many dynamical properties of interphase genome observed in experiments can be well explained by the chromatin chain organization principles. I will also discuss about the distinct residue pair contact properties in the ensembles of large-sized RNAs and proteins, which can be related to their different folding dynamics.
