Mechanical manufacturing industry is one of the key industry for a nation’s economy. The doctor degree program focuses on Mechanical Engineering and Automation, and forms its own unique characteristics.

2Modern integrated manufacturing technology and system

It mainly covers DFM/DFA/DFC theory and technology; Intelligent product design and quality predicting theory and system; Modern industry engineering and ERP; Production control theory and intelligent manufacturing system, Industry design etc.

3Key mechanical part molding and hardening

It mainly covers textile key part molding and hardening, metallurgy roller invalidation research and improvement for its performance etc.

4Intelligent control and testing

It focuses on machinery testing theory and application, Processing quality online testing and control, signal processing and failure diagnose etc.

5Optics-Mechatronics technology and intelligent robot

It focuses on the auto-guide and positioning of moving robot in special condition, Photo identification and understanding in Non-constructive space, Complex modeling and intelligent control technology, Flexibility, intelligent and automatic system control and management based on overall line etc. 

6CAD/CAM

It focusing on CAD/CAM; Virtual manufacturing technology;

There are 5 supervisors for doctoral candidates. The doctor degree program has excellent teaching and academic tradition and achievements. In recent years we have presided over 2 programs of National Natural Science Foundation Committee, 8 national “863” planning programs, 20 programs of province and institutes level. Several technologies have been put into practice and achieved great economic and social profits. For example, mini-hole electricity sparkle-ultrasonic compound techniques and equipment, automation theory of the techniques design, non-gyration part CAPP tooling system, Rapid development and application concerning concurrent engineering, Santana shaft casting with shell molding, fashion design CAD were rewarded as the prizes by nation and institute. 8 monographs and textbooks were published.

We concentrate on intercommunication with overseas organizations, and send scholars and doctoral candidates to cooperative research and establish the relationship with some famous universities such as MIT, Columbia University, Maryland University, Georgia Technology Institute in USA, Leeds University, Birmingham University in England, and Hokkaido University in Japan and Hong Kong Science Technology University.

2. Mechanical Design and Theory

The doctor degree program was one of the first national doctoral programs. It is categorized as the second-level subject of ‘Mechanical design and theory’ which subordinates to the first-level subject of ‘mechanical engineering’ according to the new subject index published by the Ministry of Education.

Mechanical design is an important field with the greatest innovation in machinery industry and one of the most important subjects, which helps promoting the creativity of our national machinery industry and its sustainable development. The program has his own particular advantage in the field of the theory and practice in mechanical design.

Among the innovative design of new textile machinery, application theory of fiber machinery complex system and optics Mechatronics technology are the features of the program.

The doctor program contributed a lot to our national textile machinery industry. For example, “Static spinning technology” invented by Prof. Liu Yu-xuan was awarded a national invention prize;  “weft insertion controlled by pipe-guiding on air-jet loom” invented by Prof. Chen Ming was rewarded 1st prize of National Textile Institute; Yarn dynamo by Prof. Chen Ren-zhe received excellent textbook prize, Spinning Spindle Theory and Practice by Prof. Chen Ruiqi was awarded 2nd prize by National Textile Committee.

Our achievements: 2 awards by National Science Committee, 1 award by National Invention Prize, 18 awards by National Textile Science and Technology Progress Prize, 1 award by National Machinery Ministry, 2 awards by Shanghai Science Committee, 4 awards by Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Prize, 1 award for new product prize, 3 textbooks and monographs above institute level, and 3 awards by Shanghai Science and Technology Achievements Prize.

There are 8 research fellows and professors (4 supervisors for doctoral candidates), 17 associate professors. In recent years we have achieved a lot in scientific research and technological development, and we have taken up 2 programs from National natural science foundation, 5 doctor foundation programs and key tutors supporting programs from Ministry of Education, 4 programs of provincial level. More than 10 research results have been put into application in enterprises.

The doctor program focuses on the exchanges and cooperation with overseas organizations, we have sent teachers and doctoral candidates to do research work in some oversea university or college such as Maryland University, North Carolina University, Crimson University in USA, Leeds University, Birmingham University in UK, Hokkaido University in Japan and Hong Kong Technology University.
